EHCP

The children and young people that we work with at The Yews School are between the ages of 11yrs – 18yrs, they have Special Educational Needs and/or a Disability (SEND) and have an Education, Health, and Care Plan. (EHCP)

Ladybird Manor School supports children and young people with a variety of needs such as, but not exclusively:

  • Children and young people with neurodiversity such as Autism and ADHD.
  • Speech language and communication needs.
  • Social and emotional, mental health needs.
  • Trauma and attachment needs.
  • Mild/moderate learning difficulties.

We understand that children and young people’s needs are often complex and do not neatly fall into primary and secondary areas of needs, so we consider each and every referral to ensure that we are the right group for the child or young person and that we are sure our schools will be able to meet their needs. The one positive about Ladybird Manor School is children reside within our Children’s Home, develop positive relationship with their peers and build trust in the wrap around care and support.

How?

The children and young people that are placed with Ladybird Manor School are supported by the Local Authority to attend.  Through our robust assessment process, we will understand the unique needs of the learning and match accordingly based on their profile.

Due to the nature of our setting students will reside within our Children’s Home and attend The Yews

At The Yews School, children attend because they are met with a warm, nurturing, and specialist environment where they are understood, supported, and empowered to thrive. Our school is designed specifically for young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Global Developmental Delay, specific learning difficulties, and neurodiverse profiles who require a highly individualised approach to learning and wellbeing.

Why

  • 🧡 A Warm, Welcoming Community
We pride ourselves on our family feel. Every child is known, valued, and supported by adults who build strong, trusting relationships. Our environment is calm, predictable, and caring — the foundation for learning and emotional security.
  • 🧠 Bespoke Learning Pathways
No two children are the same, and neither are their learning journeys. We create tailored, developmentally-appropriate curriculum pathways that reflect each pupil’s unique strengths, interests, and needs. Learning is brought to life through project-based experiences, combining academic goals with practical, hands-on opportunities.
  • 🌈 Embedded Sensory and Therapeutic Support
Our school day is structured around sensory diets, regulation strategies, and therapeutic input, helping pupils remain calm, engaged, and ready to learn. Whether it’s through sensory circuits, calm spaces, or outdoor learning like forest school or farm visits, every child’s sensory and emotional needs are honoured.
  • 🎓 Specialist Teaching and Expertise
Our staff are trained in a wide range of evidence-based approaches including, Attention Autism, and Makaton. We work as a multidisciplinary team — including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and mental health practitioners — to ensure that learning is holistic and consistent.
  • 🧩 Support for the Whole Child
Beyond academic learning, we support pupils with communication, life skills, emotional regulation, and social development, helping them build confidence and prepare for life beyond school in a meaningful and supported way.
  • 👫 Family Partnerships
We work closely with families, valuing their insight and ensuring consistency between home and school. Together, we celebrate every milestone, no matter how small.

The Yews School isn’t just a school — it’s a place where children feel safe, valued, and capable.

We are here for learners who need something different — not less — and we build a foundation for lifelong growth, communication, and success.
